It is with great sadness that we wish our shipmate, Robert (Bob) Dickinson, a final farewell as he departed on Eternal Patrol this past weekend (Sunday, 22 Jun 2025).

Bob Dickinson, GMC(SS), (Sep 1924 – Jun 2025) rested his oars after spending nearly 101 years on Earth, Sunday morning at 0100 hrs. His daughter said he passed in his sleep after several days of declining health. Shortly before his passing, Bob had relocated to New York to be closer to his family. His daughter states that his interment will be a family only event and he will be buried next to Kate, his wife of nearly 70 years.
Bob was the only lifetime member of SLF and served aboard the USS Queenfish (SS 393) and USS Remora (SS-487), during WWII as a gunner. Bob was a highly decorated veteran with Commendation letters signed by Admirals serving in the Pacific fleet. Following the sinking of a troop transport ship, Bob was among the submarine crew to jump into the water to rescue survivors.
Below is a YouTube video of Bob being interviewed. Another chapter closes on a friend and shipmate.
Bob was a man of quiet strength, a member of a truly remarkable generation, the World War II veterans, and specifically a proud member of the “Silent Service,” the U.S. Navy’s Submarine Force. He embodied the spirit of the silent service, performing his duty with immense skill and courage, often in the face of incredible danager especially while serving aboard the USS Queenfish (SS 393).
Bob, you stand relieved, rest your oar. Rest in Peace. You stood your watch well. Fair winds, travel well, we have the watch. “Fair Winds and Following Seas”
RIP Brave Soul. Thank you for your service to our country. A true hero has entered into heaven.
